RINGWOOD AND SPARTA STUDENTS WIN $1000 SCHOLARSHIPS FROM H2M

This year H2M celebrates its 16th Annual Scholarship Program with the award of two $1000 scholarships to deserving students from local school districts in New Jersey who are graduating in June and heading off to college to pursue careers in either architecture, engineering or environmental science. This year's worthy recipients are Kristen Fisher, a Sparta High School senior, who plans to study Environmental Science at Pennsylvania State University, and Alyssa Schaedler, a Wanaque High School senior, who plans to study Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. H2M's final selection of these extraordinary seniors was based on their academic strengths, their involvement in extra-curricular activities, their letters of recommendation, their original essays and, most importantly, their desire to make a positive contribution to the architectural and engineering community.

GARY E. LOESCH, P.E. NAMED 2011 ENGINEER OF THE YEAR BY ACEC NEW YORK

At the June 15 ACEC New York's awards luncheon, Gene Daly, Chairman of ACEC New York Awards Committee (left in photo) presented the 2011 Engineer of the Year Award to Gary E. Loesch, P.E., Executive Vice President of H2M (right). Nominees were judged on their engineering achievements; examples of leadership; and their service to ACEC New York, the engineering profession and their local community. "It is an honor to be recognized by one's peers and in particular by such a great organization as ACEC New York where individual members are always willing to work tirelessly and unselfishly toward a common goal of improving ACEC, our businesses and the design professions" said Mr. Loesch.

Mr. Loesch has been an active member of ACEC New York for more than 20 years, holding several positions including president, board member and chairman of the Legislative, Environmental and Nominating Committees. He continues to serve on the Legislative, Scholarship committees and ad-hoc leadership committees. On the national level, he has chaired the ACEC Quality Management Committee, currently serves on the Risk Management and Environment & Energy Committees, served as an ACEPAC Trustee and is currently one of seven Trustees in the ACEC Business Insurance Trust.

NEW PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS AT H2M

Smita P. Day, Project Engineer in H2M's Environmental Services Division has successfully completed the State of New York Professional Engineer Civil Exam and is now a licensed, Professional Engineer. When asked how her recent accomplishment will affect her career, Ms. Day replied, "Obtaining my P.E. License allows me to grow into the next step of my career and it means that the State of New York recognizes that I have the qualifications to be a professional engineer (stamp and seal designs and documents, provide testimony, etc)." Ms. Day has been working at H2M since August 2010. She has a Master of Science degree in Geoenvironmental Engineering from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Bioresource Engineering, Rutgers, State University of New Jersey. She is OSHA certified in Health and Safety Operations at Hazardous Waste Sites and has completed the 10-hour Safety Training NYCDOB

Alison K. Auriemmo, Project Engineer in H2M's Water Resources Division has successfully completed of the New York State Professional Engineer Exam in Civil: Water Resources and Environmental. This accomplishment has earned her a Professional Engineer License. Alison has been working at H2M since June 2006. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological and Environmental Engineering from Cornell University. She is a LEED Accredited Professional by the USGBC and an active member of the American Water Works Association and the New York Water Environment Association.

NEW ENGINEER-IN-TRAINING

Staff Engineer, Charles J. Starke, recently passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam - the first part of obtaining his Professional Engineer Licensure. With this achievement, Starke is now an EIT. When asked what this accomplishment means to his career, Mr. Starke, "It means that all of the work and time I have put in so far has begun to pay off, and gives me the confidence I need to continue to progress in my profession." Starke joined H2M as an intern in January of 2007. After graduating from the New York Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, he was hired permanently to work in H2M's MEP Engineering Division.

H2M EXPANDS TO ALBANY & LOWER HUDSON - NEW OFFICES OPEN FOR BUSINESS

H2M has been providing architectural, engineering and environmental laboratory services to both the private and public sector on Long Island, in New York and New Jersey for more than 77 years. We are proud to announce the opening of two new offices - one in Albany, NY (Albany County) as of February 1st and the other in New City, NY (Rockland County) as of March 1st.

H2M President and CEO, John J. Molloy, P.E. says, "Opening these offices gives H2M the opportunity to be closer to our clients in both the Capitol and Lower Hudson Valley Regions. We are excited to respond to the growth opportunities in front of us. The firm's sphere continues to expand along with our services and the markets we serve. It's all about maintaining the highest levels of service and meeting the changing needs of our clients."

NEWLY REGISTERED AND LICENSED STAFF AT H2M

Veronica E. Byrnes, LEED AP, Senior Project Architect in H2Ms Architectural Division, has successfully completed the New York State Architectural Registration Exams and is now a Registered Architect. Ms. Byrnes has been working with H2M since 1997. Her responsibilities include administering all phases of architectural and planning projects from preliminary design and pre-bond work, through construction administration. As a LEED Accredited Professional, her experience also includes the design of energy efficient and sustainable buildings and building systems. Ms. Byrnes has a Bachelor of Architecture from the Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture at The Cooper Union in New York City and is member of the American Institute of Architects and the U.S. Green Building Council.

Hardik Parekh, Project Engineer in H2Ms Environmental Services Division, is now a New York State licensed Professional Engineer. Mr. Parekh has been working with H2M since 2009. His responsibilities include supervision of field testing, remediation operations, and groundwater monitoring programs; preparation of investigation work plans, health and safety plans, remedial action plans, site closure reports, Phase II and Phase III environmental site assessment reports, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans; design and implementation of vapor barrier and active venting systems as well as intricate remedial systems for contaminated sites. He has an M.S., Environmental Engineering from Lamar University and a B.E., Civil Engineering from M.S. University, Baroda, India. Mr. Parekh also has his OSHA Certification for Health and Safety Operations at Hazardous Waste Sites.

Nicholas F. Bono, Project Engineer in H2Ms Wastewater Engineering Division, has also recently received his New York State Professional Engineer License. Mr. Bono joined H2M in 2009 and his responsibilities include the preparation of engineering reports, plans, specifications, and bid documents. Mr. Bono is a graduate of State University of New York at Buffalo where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering. He is a member of Water Environment Federation.

BENJAMIN J. BLETSCH, P.E. IS DESIGNATED ASCE LIFE MEMBER

Benjamin J. Bletsch, P.E., Senior Project Manager in the Water Resources Division of H2M has recently been designated Life Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Mr. Bletsch will be receiving his certificate from the Metropolitan Section, Long Island Branch of the ASCE at its technical meeting on April 14, 2011. This is a grand honor and Mr. Bletsch explains, "Being a life member of ASCE has provided me with a wealth of information on a multitude of civil engineering topics that have helped me advance my career as an engineer, an administrator and an educator." Mr. Bletsch has been an Adjunct Professor at Farmingdale State College in the Department of Architectural Technology and Construction Management since 2004 and holds a seat on the Long Island Water Conference, Education Committee since 1982.

H2M WINS "HONORABLE MENTION" BY AIA NEWARK - SUBURBAN CHAPTER

H2M's structure appropriately titled, "All aboardChanging the Path of Hunger," received New Jersey CANstruction's Honorable Mention Award this year at the annual competition that collects cans of food and raises awareness about hunger in the country. H2M's concept addresses how the current economic hardships have affected people in America and over 4 million people last year alone deal with hunger. They featured the old time trolley and then the new NJ Transit Light Rail as the symbols of how we can change the direction of hunger and move toward a hopeful future with less dependency on food banks. The goal is to stop hunger and H2M used 5,600 cans of food to get their message out. New Jersey office team members included: Tom Strauser (Team Captain), Tara Oliveira, Kristen Siri, Rich Scheick, Horace Campbell, Joe McNanna, Jason Delgrosso, Curt Schmidt, Chuck Martello, Julie Davis, Sui Leong, Diana Saltel, Jessica Giorgianni, Omar Minnicks, Stan Puszcz, Bill Parry, Rob Edgar and Dan Meehan.

H2M WINS "BEST USE OF LABELS" AT SMPS-NY'S CANSTRUCTION COMPETITION

At this year's SMPS-NY's fourth annual CANstruction Long Island competition the H2M team designed a structure titled, "One person CAN make a difference A Life, A Legacy," and was the juror's choice for "Winner, Best Use of Labels." The cans collected go to Long Island Cares Harry Chapin Foundation and are distributed to food banks across Long Island. For 30 years the Harry Chapin foundation has been making a difference in the lives of Long Islanders who are affected by hunger. The H2M team wanted to incorporate the 30th Anniversary of the foundation with Chapin's musical legacy. They researched the instruments Chapin played, chose the appropriate cans by label, color and size and purchased cans from the supermarket with charitable donations made by our contractors and vendors who participated. New York office team members: Chris Sagistano (Team Captain), Adam Post, Andrea Sobocinski, Andrew Manfredi, Cole Podolsky, Jenny Mulholland, Jessica Soskil, Jimmy Bianco, Kevin Medler, Kristina Sansotta, Linda Chiz, Patrick Stone, Priscilla Suthakar, Robert Bee, Ronald Lanner and Saverio Belfiore for their undeniable hard work and dedication and for making this year's structure one to remember.

GARY LOESCH NAMED TRUSTEE OF ACEC BUSINESS INSURANCE TRUST

H2M's Executive Vice President, Gary E. Loesch, P.E., has been selected Trustee of the ACEC (American Council of Engineering Companies) Business Insurance Trust. The Business Insurance Trust is responsible for overseeing a program that provides ACEC member firms with business and professional liability insurance coverage. H2M AWARDS SIX STUDENTS SCHOLARSHIPS

Since 1991, H2M have given out over 58 student scholarships to high school students from Long Island and northern New Jersey. This year, six students were selected to each receive a $1,000 scholarship. These students, who were recommended by their home Districts because of their academic performance, have chosen engineering, architecture or environmental science as their major. The 2010 scholarships were awarded to Emily Lodato, South Huntington School District; Alyssa Garcia, Choate Rosemary Hall; Jake Smith, Smithtown School District; Joshua Klinaszewski, Massapequa School District; Darren Air Segal, Randolph Township Schools; and Jeffrey Keenan, Sparta Township Schools. H2M DONATES $10,000 TO OUTREACH

John J. Molloy, P.E., President and CEO of H2M was honored by Outreach, a premier provider of a life changing drug and alcohol abuse treatment for adolescents ranging in age from 12 to 17 years old. H2M, with deep roots on Long Island, recognizes Outreach's tremendous role in helping our children out from under these dependencies and returning them to a productive life for the community and their families. Paul Granger, P.E., H2M's Department Manager of Water Resource Planning and Development has been selected as the Chairman of the New York State American Water Works Association. The New York Section of the AWWA is the state's largest organization dedicated to plentiful, high-quality drinking water.

H2M DONATES $25,000 TO THE HORTON AVENUE RELIEF FUND

This spring the Riverhead area suffered back-to-back rainstorms that caused extensive flooding. Particularly hard hit was the Horton Avenue area where some residents are still under water. Supervisor Walter said, "We welcome any corporate, individual, business or government assistance so that we can lend a hand in assisting those who suffered the most damage to get back on their feet." Supervisor Walter went further to state, "I particularly want to thank H2M for their generosity. In these tough times, it is great to see a caring neighbor step up to help."

Riverhead Supervisor Sean M. Walter announced that H2M, a design and engineering firm that does business with the Town of Riverhead, will be donating $25,000 to a relief fund created to assist town residents displaced by this spring's floods. Other area businesses will be donating goods, services and cash to the fund that will benefit area residents that suffered extreme flood damage. Supervisor Walter said "It is heartwarming to see our community come together to aid those most affected by the spring storms."

H2M Senior Vice President, Bob Scheiner, said "We feel it is our responsibility to give back to the Town of Riverhead and we are pleased to do what we can for those who suffered so much during these terrible storms."

H2M was awarded the Diamond Engineering Excellence Awards from the ACECNY for their Perchlorate Removal at Well No. BGD-1, Bethpage Water District. The ACECNY Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) Program recognizes and celebrates engineering achievements that demonstrate the highest degree of skill and ingenuity among member firms. It is commonly referred to as the "Academy Awards" of engineering.
