This year H2M celebrates its 16th Annual Scholarship Program with the award of two $1000 scholarships to deserving students from local school districts in New Jersey who are graduating in June and heading off to college to pursue careers in either architecture, engineering or environmental science. This year's worthy recipients are Kristen Fisher, a Sparta High School senior, who plans to study Environmental Science at Pennsylvania State University, and Alyssa Schaedler, a Wanaque High School senior, who plans to study Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. H2M's final selection of these extraordinary seniors was based on their academic strengths, their involvement in extra-curricular activities, their letters of recommendation, their original essays and, most importantly, their desire to make a positive contribution to the architectural and engineering community. |

H2M WINS "HONORABLE MENTION" BY AIA NEWARK - SUBURBAN CHAPTER
H2M's structure appropriately titled, "All aboardChanging the Path of Hunger," received New Jersey CANstruction's Honorable Mention Award this year at the annual competition that collects cans of food and raises awareness about hunger in the country. H2M's concept addresses how the current economic hardships have affected people in America and over 4 million people last year alone deal with hunger. They featured the old time trolley and then the new NJ Transit Light Rail as the symbols of how we can change the direction of hunger and move toward a hopeful future with less dependency on food banks. The goal is to stop hunger and H2M used 5,600 cans of food to get their message out. New Jersey office team members included: Tom Strauser (Team Captain), Tara Oliveira, Kristen Siri, Rich Scheick, Horace Campbell, Joe McNanna, Jason Delgrosso, Curt Schmidt, Chuck Martello, Julie Davis, Sui Leong, Diana Saltel, Jessica Giorgianni, Omar Minnicks, Stan Puszcz, Bill Parry, Rob Edgar and Dan Meehan.
H2M WINS "BEST USE OF LABELS" AT SMPS-NY'S CANSTRUCTION COMPETITION
At this year's SMPS-NY's fourth annual CANstruction Long Island competition the H2M team designed a structure titled, "One person CAN make a difference A Life, A Legacy," and was the juror's choice for "Winner, Best Use of Labels." The cans collected go to Long Island Cares Harry Chapin Foundation and are distributed to food banks across Long Island. For 30 years the Harry Chapin foundation has been making a difference in the lives of Long Islanders who are affected by hunger. The H2M team wanted to incorporate the 30th Anniversary of the foundation with Chapin's musical legacy. They researched the instruments Chapin played, chose the appropriate cans by label, color and size and purchased cans from the supermarket with charitable donations made by our contractors and vendors who participated. New York office team members: Chris Sagistano (Team Captain), Adam Post, Andrea Sobocinski, Andrew Manfredi, Cole Podolsky, Jenny Mulholland, Jessica Soskil, Jimmy Bianco, Kevin Medler, Kristina Sansotta, Linda Chiz, Patrick Stone, Priscilla Suthakar, Robert Bee, Ronald Lanner and Saverio Belfiore for their undeniable hard work and dedication and for making this year's structure one to remember.
