From the Family Home to a Regional Leader in Engineering

H2M architects + engineers Celebrates 85th Anniversary
Strategic Vision Highlights Leadership Changes

MELVILLE, NY, April 16, 2018 —

H2M architects + engineers, a leading architectural, engineering, planning, and environmental service firm, celebrating 85 years in business, recently announced key leadership changes as part of the rollout of its 2022 Strategic Vision, designed to meet the needs of the rapidly expanding firm.  The first step in its five-year strategic outlook, the internal restructuring will allow for H2M’s continued development in existing service areas and provide the resources to continue building on budding offerings.  In a past marked by the development of the region’s municipal infrastructure, HM’s track record of success and premiere client-management services is largely attributed to its humble and grassroots beginnings.

“Our 85th anniversary has provided an opportunity to reflect on the path that created today’s business, while opening the door to a vision that will carry our business over the next several decades,” said H2M President and CEO Rich Humann.  “Our continued expansion is a testament to the extraordinary trust placed upon us by our clients, and we look forward to continue growing with them in the years to come.  These changes to our leadership structure and the addition of new positions allow us to strengthen our efforts in client management and service offerings.”

Established in the heart of the Great Depression, H2M began its operations as a land surveying practice out of the kitchen of founder Henry ‘Gus’ Holzmacher in 1933.  In the 85 years that followed, Holzmacher, McLendon, and Murrell became H2M architects + engineers moving out of the family kitchen to become a regional leader in engineering services, covering nine markets out of seven offices in the tristate region.  Most recently, H2M has undertaken the development of a modern collaborative space in the Mineola Union Free School District’s Hampton Street Elementary School.  The new building addition incorporates modern furniture, cheerful colors, and environmentally-conscious finishes, such as carpet made of recycled materials, where multiple student classes can learn and collaborate simultaneously.

“H2M architects + engineers is thrilled and honored to be commemorating its 85th year in business,” said Humann.  “The company’s growth demands that we create more senior leadership in each of our markets, and we believe this move will allow us to achieve an unprecedented level of attention to each of our clients.  We are fortunate to have experienced consistent growth through the years, and know these internal changes will allow us to continue providing the one-on-one attention our clients have come to expect since our inception.”

The internal restructuring of H2M architects + engineers comes to accommodate new and expanding business opportunities and regional expansion across the Northeast.  In addition to making more than 60 promotions of staff and project engineers, designers and scientists, associate and Vice President-level employees, H2M has also paved the way for the reorganization and creation of new c-suite positions from within the company.  Dennis Kelleher, P.E., was appointed to the to the newly created position of Principal Market Director, headed by Steve Hyman, P.E., and announcing a new Deputy Chief Operating Officer in Joseph Mottola, R.A., who will assume the lead COO role in 2019.

“It’s an honor to have served this company for most of my 40 year career and to be given this new level of challenge and responsibility in my new role,” said Dennis Kelleher, P.E., Principal Market Director at H2M.  “I am excited to play a major role in H2M’s continued growth and development by helping lead the individual market directors and the overall strategy of our firm.  Together, I am confident H2M can continue to innovate our work and usher in a new level of creativity and pragmatism at all levels of the firm.”

Celebrating 85 years, H2M is a full-service consulting and design firm offering the expertise of more than 390 architects, engineers (water supply, civil/site, structural, M/E/P, wastewater and environmental), planners, designers, inspectors, surveyors and scientists.  H2M is proud of its long history of client service and consistent ability to meet architectural, engineering, and environmental challenges head on.  H2M offers a practical approach, with creative results.
