Overcoming Challenges

Melville, NY (May 8, 2017) – Overcoming challenges to meet the client’s needs motivates everyone at H2M architects + engineers. David Leun, Municipal Engineering Department Manager in H2M’s Suffern Office enjoys taking project challenges head on.

David’s approach while working with a client is personally getting to know them, while focusing on their needs/concerns in regards to a project. David is passionate about breaking down those needs/concerns to find the best possible solution to solve the client’s problems, while offering them an H2M quality product or service. Even though a project may be challenging, David knows he has the perfect team to get the job done.

“A challenging project is usually one that your client will be most concerned with and will likely be watching carefully. Helping them solve the tough challenges can create a team atmosphere and help us grow closer to our clients. Nothing will impact your future success more than building meaningful relationships with your clients today.” stated, David.

The people, growing culture, mentoring, and positive work environment are David’s favorite parts of working at H2M. David appreciates mentoring the younger staff because it’s important for the growth of the firm, and he is inspired by the teaching aspect of it. Working from a branch office David specifically enjoys the collaboration between all the different office locations at H2M to ensure everyone is on the same page regarding project challenges. David feels a sense of accomplishment after every project win.

David said, “Every project win feels big. It’s so hard to break into a new area, even when the clients may know you personally, or even from your days with a former employer. Winning the Yonkers Secondary System Upgrade was the biggest accomplishment so far. It’s the largest capacity WWTP that H2M has ever worked at, and one of the earliest RFP’s from Westchester County that we pursued.”

David came to work for the firm after he had collaborated with H2M’s Senior Vice President, Director of Corporate QA/QC Tony Fisher, and CEO Rich Humann on a major Westchester County project with his former employer. Following their collaboration, David got to know Tony better through the same professional functions/golf outings resulting in an offer from Tony to come in for an interview with H2M.

Outside of the office, David enjoys working out and hanging out with his dogs. He also loves to spend quality time with friends and family. His favorite hobbies are fishing, boating, and swimming, anything that involves the water, David is there. Most people may not know that David served in the U.S Army after high school as a paratrooper. He was stationed in Germany during Operation Desert Shield/Storm. His unit was assigned as security to the NATO Commander and his staff (and families). The deputy NATO Commander his unit worked with (John Shalikashvili) was later appointed as our Chairman of The Joint Chiefs of Staff under President Clinton.
