A SECOND HOME FOR A COMMUNITY

Posted on

When approached from the front, the Grant Park Community Center appears to be just a single-story. However, because it is built into the natural site slope, the building is actually a two-story, 3,500 square foot structure. Retained by the Richman Group Development Corporation, H2M provided architectural and engineering services, as well as the design and development of construction documents for the Yonkers-based project.

The building includes a community room, fitness room, office space, and an equipment storage area. It is constructed with light gauge steel framing and a non-combustible sheathing atop a steel-reinforced concrete foundation. Its architectural features include a two-story entry parlor that allows for natural sunlight to enter through windows above, as well as a fiber cement siding finish that resembles wood lap siding but provides an increased fire protection. Asphalt shingles cover the roofing system to resemble residential construction.
