Riverhead Biosolids Reuse Project Set to Begin Construction
We are excited to announce that the Riverhead Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is set to begin construction this year on a groundbreaking project that will make it the first facility on Long Island to achieve Class A Biosolids status.
The primary goal of this project is to upgrade and expand the plant’s sludge handling and treatment processes. This will be accomplished by installing an Autothermal Thermophilic Aerobic Digestion (ATAD) system, a state-of-the-art technology that will significantly enhance the existing sludge processing capabilities. Once complete, the Riverhead WWTP will produce Class A Biosolids, which are treated to the highest standards of safety and can be beneficially reused in applications such as agriculture and landscaping.
This upgrade not only represents a significant technological advancement but also underscores our commitment to sustainable wastewater management and environmental stewardship.
