Kings Park High School

Cafeteria Addition and Renovation

Kings Park, NY

The Kings Park Central School District on Long Island, NY had not upgraded its high school since its construction in 1970. Expanding enrollment forced the school to expand its classroom, laboratory, music, and cafeteria capacities. The intermixing of passenger vehicles, buses, and pedestrians in the same traffic lane also posed safety concerns. Other necessary upgrades included improving accessibility and energy efficiency and replacing the roofing.

The design of the cafeteria addition mimics a college campus by emphasizing natural light and taking advantage of the scenic view. Informal seating complements café-style counters and stools along the perimeter. Upgraded kitchen equipment and serving lines improve student circulation and efficiency.
