Renovations and Additions
Woodbridge, NJ
The Township of Woodbridge commissioned H2M to reimagine a vacant 5,000-square-foot school building, formerly Mt. Carmel School, as a fresh new space for the non-profit organization Our House to host innovative programs designed to help adults with disabilities achieve their full potential.
The Township of Woodbridge purchased a portion of the Mt. Carmel School property from its original owner, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Diocese of Metuchen. The purchased property comprises a church, community center, and parish rectory.
H2M worked with the Township to demolish the parish rectory to create space for parking and circulation around the property. The Township also planned to demolish the community center, but H2M evaluated the property and instead recommended that the Township look at it for additional renovations in the future.
Over the following several months, H2M collaborated with both the Township and Our House to design a facility that can accommodate the wide array of programs being offered, as well as the diverse special needs of those involved. This revamped facility will house a recreation room, a dining area with a teaching kitchen, a classroom, fitness rooms, office space, and updated bathroom facilities.
