Elmont Fire District Engine 4 Station
New Fire Station
Elmont, NY
The Elmont Fire District’s old Engine 4 Station was in poor condition and hadn’t been renovated in many years. Sited on a narrow lot in a dense suburban neighborhood near the border of Nassau County and New York City, the team decided that a brand-new building would be more economical than renovating the existing structure.
The new building sits on nearly the same footprint as the original. To maximize space on the small site, the building abuts the property line on two sides. With 12,950 square feet spread out across three stories, the layout maximizes workflow efficiency and decreases response times from the volunteer parking lot to the turnout gear to the two apparatus bays. The third floor also has an outdoor terrace adjacent to the recreation room. Inside and out, the entire building features a red and black color scheme inspired by old-fashioned New York City Fire Department stations.
