Well and Pump House Replacement

Lake Success, NY

The Manhasset-Lakeville Water District retained H2M to design a replacement well and pump house at Lakeville Road Plant.

The existing potable water supply well at the Lakeville Road Plant had experienced multiple failures over a period of time. First, a casing failure led to a reduction ion capacity. This failure was corrected with a liner, however, a few years later the well began pumping sand due to a screen failure. To provide a permanent solution, H2M was selected to design a new replacement well at similar depth and capacity, as well design a new pump house for new electrical systems, pump head and piping, and chemical treatment systems for pH and disinfection.

As the existing well was in-place for nearly 60 years and had experienced multiple failures, H2M recommended the well be abandoned and a new well drilled in its place. The existing well was abandoned and a new Lloyd well drilled to a depth of 703 feet below grade with a capacity of 2.02 million gallons per day was constructed. In addition, aged electrical and process systems were also replaced and a new back-up power system installed.

Application for the abandonment of the existing well and a new permit application was made through the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). A 348 Application was made to Nassau County Dept. of Health for the Water Supply Improvement.

The completed project resulted in the Water District having a reliable water source for years to come.
