A Multi-disciplinary Approach to Campus Energy Reduction
Presenter: Kelly Greenfield, R.A., LEED AP BD+C, WELL AP
Time: 9:00 A.M. – 10:00 A.M.
Date: July 24th, 2025
Location: Track 2
Colleges and universities across New York State are working to meet the decarbonization targets set by the 2019 Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). These goals call for a statewide reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 40 percent by 2030 and 85 percent by 2050, based on 1990 levels. Achieving them requires a thoughtful, multi-disciplinary approach to sustainable design.
This session will explore how integrated strategies such as thermal envelope improvements, alternative energy systems like solar and geothermal, battery energy storage, and advanced building management systems can help institutions reach these targets.
The presentation will also highlight the benefits of close collaboration between architects and engineers. Real-world case studies will demonstrate how a unified team can anticipate challenges, streamline design, and deliver sustainability solutions that are efficient, functional, and visually cohesive.
