Project Spotlight: Town of Weston Tank Replacement
To provide the Town of Weston, CT, with an innovative and cost-effective solution to replace their existing potable water tank, H2M recently installed two underground fiberglass-reinforced polyester (FRP) tanks as part of improvements to the Town’s Ravenwood Water System.
The Town currently relies on a single 15,000-gallon above-ground FRP tank, which is aging and nearing obsolescence. To proactively replace the aging tank before it reached the end of its useful life, H2M identified the installation of two underground 10,000-gallon FRP tanks as a sustainable and affordable option. Having the new storage tanks underground will protect the FRP from the sun’s UV rays, extending their lifespans past what an aboveground tank would offer.
This approach also provides critical system redundancy, which is an essential benefit for smaller water systems. With two tanks in operation, the Town will have the flexibility to take one offline for maintenance while continuing to provide uninterrupted service with the other. Underground tanks provide further benefits, including protection from UV-related degradation.
This innovative concept called for miscellaneous improvements to the associated pump/treatment building including upgrades to piping, electrical, and HVAC systems which balanced critical infrastructure updates with a budget-oriented approach.
