The Government Award is given out annually to individuals who have made a significant impact through their work in the public sector. William’s contributions to local governments include roles as a civil engineer for the New York City Department of Transportation and the Village of Freeport Department of Public Works, as well as Commissioner of Engineering for the Town of Hempstead. During his time as Commissioner, William oversaw the delivery of a wide variety of major public works projects, including drainage improvements, road resurfacing, and post-disaster recovery efforts.
In addition to his work at H2M, William also currently serves as a member of the Board of Commissioners for the Town of Hempstead’s Sanitary District No. 6 and as Chairman of the Nassau County Industrial Development Association. He is also Past President of the Long Island Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers and a Board Member of Irish-Americans in Government.
“I’ve been proud to have contributed to so many vital public works projects throughout my career,” Rockensies said. “So many of our everyday activities, from morning job commutes to weekly grocery store trips, are incumbent on safe, reliable infrastructure. I’m grateful for this outstanding honor and even more grateful to have made such a positive impact on communities across Long Island.”
