ACMUA turned to H2M for an emergency action plan. Together, they swiftly designed and deployed a PFAS treatment solution, installing granular activated carbon (GAC) vessels at key well sites. The vessels' strategic placement and pumping modifications minimized disruption and pressure loss.
H2M's expertise proved invaluable throughout the project, from guiding the permitting process to providing essential consulting services. Their recommendations, including relying solely on groundwater and replacing GAC media, led to substantial compliance improvements. Despite pandemic-related supply chain challenges, H2M's efficient coordination with vessel manufacturer Tigg kept the project on track.
This successful collaboration showcases H2M's ability to meet tight deadlines, overcome obstacles, and proactively address evolving regulations. By leveraging their contamination treatment expertise, H2M helped ACMUA safeguard public health, and achieve regulatory compliance on schedule.
Recognized with both local and National Honor Awards from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), H2M's exceptional work highlights their commitment to delivering innovative, cost-effective solutions. As PFAS regulations continue to evolve nationwide, H2M remains dedicated to assisting communities in protecting their water resources and public health.
H2M recommended a cutting-edge Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) pressure filtration unit process. With 24 carbon reactors housed in purpose-built buildings, the solution optimized efficiency and space utilization. Thorough environmental assessments ensured compliance with floodplains, regulations, wetlands, and zoning.
Seamless integration was crucial, given the facility's proximity to a coastal residential neighborhood. H2M's civil and architectural teams meticulously planned the structures, considering aesthetics and community concerns. Through a voluntary outreach program, residents provided valuable feedback, shaping the final design.
This successful implementation empowered the facility to consistently deliver safe drinking water to the Township and beyond. The project showcases the power of partnership, innovation, and community engagement in ensuring water quality and enhancing the well-being of residents and businesses.
Water District Plant No. 1
At the forefront of our design is a GAC system that offers versatility. With the capacity to accommodate various types and sizes of carbon and resin, the District can seamlessly adapt to evolving media availability, prices, and removal efficiencies in the future. This forward-thinking approach ensures a sustainable and highly efficient treatment process.
To complement the GAC system, we constructed a groundbreaking 270 square foot Chemical Treatment Building. This cutting-edge facility serves as a hub for post-treatment chemical injection equipment, guaranteeing the utmost level of disinfection. By incorporating advanced safety controls, including a chemical treatment safety panel and analyzers, we are prioritizing secure operation of the system.
Our work goes beyond the installation of the treatment system. H2M also oversaw the construction of a new 370 square foot GAC concrete foundation pad and a 55,000-gallon drainage field. Additionally, we made essential modifications to existing site piping and grading, along with the rehabilitation and expansion of existing site driveways and Well No. 1-3. This comprehensive plan leaves no stone unturned in our commitment to delivering exceptional results.
The significance of this project was acknowledged by the New York State Water Infrastructure Improvement Act (WIIA) grant, awarded to the Hampton Bays Water District in 2017. This prestigious grant symbolizes the state's recognition of the critical importance of addressing PFAS treatment. As a vital partner, H2M played a pivotal role in developing and submitting all the necessary documentation for the WIIA grant application. We continue to collaborate closely with the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation, ensuring unwavering compliance with grant requirements throughout the construction process.
At H2M, we are dedicated to driving change and prioritizing water quality and sustainability. The Hampton Bays Water District project represents a milestone in our journey, marking our first treatment project in 2017. Join us as we revolutionize water treatment, safeguard communities, and shape a better tomorrow. Together, we can make a lasting impact.
