Alumni Gym at Bronx Community College
Swimming Pool Rehabilitation
Bronx, NY
The Alumni Gym at Bronx Community College was originally constructed in 1931 and modified in 1947 to convert an existing basketball floor into a swimming pool with facilities for racing, high and low diving, and water polo. The pool was again renovated in the 1980s with new pool equipment and tiles. Due to its mixed-use history, the aging facility needed structural repairs and upgrades to meet new health department ADA codes.
We provided architectural, MEP, and structural engineering design which incorporated all-new pool equipment and upgrades, including:
- New pool filtration and water treatment system
- Pool heater
- Replacement electrical system and pool piping
- Drainage
- Surge tank
- Pool wall and floor repairs with new tiles
- Pool signage
- Gutter system
- Pool area lighting and ventilation
- Pool alarm
The design also features an ADA lift, ADA-compliant locker and shower room, and a new, accessible route from the pool to the building exterior.
