Cause of Pipe Failures:

To prevent pipe ruptures, it’s important to avoid turning off the heat, setting thermostats too low, running low on heating sources, or allowing excessive leaks and drafts to enter the home. Although many insurance companies may help mitigate damage from freezes, the insured must demonstrate that these measures were taken.

In the event of a pipe freeze/rupture, H2M’s forensic professionals are equipped to perform K-factor calculations (consumption analysis) to determine how much fuel was consumed relative to ambient temperatures, the likelihood of whether the tank ran out of oil, thermostats were set at temperatures insufficient to maintain heat, or the burner malfunctioned. A consumption analysis can also be completed without a site visit, as it requires historical fuel usage data and/or receipts and possibly water and electric usage data. This information is provided to the carrier to assist in their determination that heat was maintained. While H2M is proficient at estimating damage costs and rebuild estimates, this enables us to ease the adjuster’s ability to settle all types of claims.
