H2M Celebrates Archtober with Herson Suquino
In recognition of Archtober, New York City’s annual monthlong celebration of architecture, we spoke to the architects at our NYC office about the most meaningful and definitive projects of their careers at H2M thus far.
For Senior Architect Herson Suquino, AIA, NCARB, RIBA, the most meaningful projects are the ones that he can engage with from the earliest ideas through the final details, helping clients shape both the outcome and the process itself.
“I love the early stages of a project that involve research, exploration, and conceptualization,” Herson explains. “When we’re able to shape and form the project alongside the client from the beginning, it creates a shared sense of purpose and a stronger connection to the work.”
At the core of Herson’s process is collaboration with both clients and within the design team. Early project phases are about listening, understanding, and translating client goals into clear design intentions and solutions. This approach establishes a foundation of trust and transparency that strengthens the architect–client relationship throughout the life of the project.
“The key is to align our creative thinking with the client’s objectives. We share ideas openly, test possibilities, and refine concepts together. That exchange of goals and ideas is what gives real value to the process.”
Brainstorming and collective creativity also play a major role. Herson’s team captures every idea generated, knowing that even unused concepts may find new relevance later. This open, iterative process ensures design continuity and innovation across projects.
Ultimately, for Herson, the satisfaction comes from seeing a completed architectural project through a built structure that embodies both the client’s aspirations and the architect’s vision. It’s all brought to life through a collaborative process built on trust, shared goals, and creativity.
“It’s a powerful feeling, seeing a completed structure or facility that you not only helped design, but shaped and conceptualized with the client from day one.”
