H2M Library Project Covered in Newsday
The Gold Coast Public Library, an H2M-designed library that opened in Glen Head, NY, last month, was recently featured in a spotlight by Newsday.
Since 2014, the Library’s Board of Trustees had been seeking a new site to replace the existing library building, which was the smallest in Nassau County at only 4,000 square feet. H2M was initially engaged to provide a feasibility study, programming, schematic design for the new building, as well as pre-referendum services in promotion of a $10.8-million bond vote that passed in December 2020. Following the successful referendum, the Library purchased a 2.62-acre property to serve as the new site and retained H2M for design development, construction documentation, permitting, bidding, and construction management services.
H2M’s design includes expanded children’s and community rooms, a new teen area, an outdoor reading garden, quiet study rooms, flexible shelving to house larger print and media collections, 52 on-site parking spaces, and energy-efficient HVAC, plumbing, and lighting fixtures. H2M and the Gold Coast team broke ground on the Glen Head facility in 2023, and a formal grand opening ceremony is anticipated for later this spring.
