H2M’s Kevin Paul Speaks on AIA Panel
H2M Senior Vice President and Director of Private Real Estate Kevin Paul, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, CFM, recently participated in a panel discussion at the annual American Institute of Architects (AIA) Tri-State Fusion Conference in Hershey, PA.
The AIA Tri-State Fusion Conference brings together the AIA’s New York State, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania chapters for a multi-day event dedicated to knowledge-sharing through professional networking, presentations, and panel discussions.
Paul’s panel, titled “Leveraging Technology for Accessible Housing Solutions,” brought together experts from various fields to discuss the use of 3D printing technology to make housing more affordable for both builders and residents. Discussion topics included fundamental principles for designing 3D-printed homes, the sustainability and resiliency benefits of this technology, and the key regulatory and building code requirements that every developer and municipal official should know.
Paul, with over 35 years of design and construction experience in both the private and public sectors, played an integral role in the development of the first 3D-printed home in the United States to receive a building permit and certificate of occupancy. H2M developed the home, located in the Town of Riverhead on Long Island, in collaboration with SQ4D, a New York-based construction technology company that utilized its proprietary Autonomous Robotic Construction System to 3D-print the home’s structure layer by layer.
“Working on the first 3D-printed home in the country was an eye-opening experience for me,” Paul explains. “This technology is truly amazing, with endless applications in the real estate world and beyond. It was an honor to be able to share my experiences and vision for the future with my fellow architects and designers.”
