H2M’s Local Law 97 Article Published in New York Real Estate Journal

New York Real Estate Journal recently published an article on New York City’s Local Law 97, a set of regulations designed to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions produced by the city’s largest buildings by 40 percent by 2030 and 100 percent by 2050.

The article, bylined by H2M Deputy Energy Market Director Michael Rubino, outlines valuable building design strategies and technologies—such as tight thermal envelopes and building management systems—for reducing GHG emissions. Rubino also discusses how the NYC Accelerator, an initiative to help building owners achieve energy efficiency, supports decarbonization efforts via one-on-one technical assistance, building component recommendations, information on relevant financial incentives, and more.

The benefits of decarbonization are further outlined in a case study, where H2M helped the owners of a 10-story, 108,000-square-foot mixed use building meet Local Law 97 regulations, achieving roughly $80,000 in annual energy cost savings and reducing carbon dioxide output by about 537 tons per year.
