Bellmore Fire District
New Training Tower and Logistics Building
Bellmore, NY
Financed by a community bond vote, the Bellmore Fire District’s new three-story training tower and logistics building is their first training facility and is sited less than a mile from multiple stations. Previously, responders had to travel on training days, which left the all-volunteer District understaffed during emergency calls.
The training tower is equipped for bailout, simulated fire evolutions, rappelling, and ropes training, and has roof props for specialized training. Around the tower is at-grade space for exercises involving ladder set-up. The site also includes a hydrant for water supply, robust below-grade drainage for run-off, and simulated utility poles and wires.
As an extra layer of protection against carcinogenic contamination, the logistics building has decontamination facilities, including three DeCon showers and a laundry room for potentially contaminated gear. The facility can also decontaminate apparatus to support “clean cab” protocols. Preventing contamination from reaching the primary stations is the top priority.
