Borough of Pompton Lakes Morris Canal Greenway
Multi-Use Path Design
Pompton Lakes, NJ
In 2015, the Borough of Pompton Lakes in New Jersey sought multiple funding grants to implement the long-anticipated Morris Canal Greenway project, a public landscaped greenway that runs along the bank of the Ramapo River.
The Borough brought on H2M to assist with securing the grant funding and creating the multi-use pathway. H2M designed the 10-foot-wide multi-use gravel trail with a semi-rigid cellular confinement system anchored to the subgrade in order to create a trail surface that would be stable for both pedestrians on foot and wheeled apparatus, even in the aftermath of a flood.
In addition to designing the trail, H2M secured all necessary permits from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, developed construction phase plans and specifications, assisted in the public bidding process, and provided construction observation services.
