East Islip Middle and High School

New Set of Shared Athletic Fields

East Islip, NY

In 2018, the community of East Islip passed a $58 million bond referenda for infrastructure upgrades across the school district. On that list of upgrades was a new set of athletic fields shared by the adjacent middle and high schools.

After a detailed analysis of the existing conditions and by collaborating with the local Board of Education, Director of Athletics, and administrative team to determine current and future needs, the scope comprised 115 acres of multiple synthetic turf fields. Challenges included dramatic elevation changes and proximity to public roads.

The final design included a field striped for boys and girls varsity lacrosse, field hockey, and soccer; varsity baseball diamond with a practice field in the outfield and bullpens, batting cage, and dugouts; 400-meter rubber track; elevated spectator promenade with 1,200-seat home and visitor bleachers; press box with observation deck; field lighting; comfort station; playground; and walking trail.
