UST System Investigation

Edison, NJ

As part of a contract with the NJDEP, the Division of Property Management and Construction engaged our team to evaluate a former underground storage tank (UST) system at the Edison State Police Station Field Office.

A geophysical investigation conducted by our team identified former UST piping remaining in the subsurface. A soil investigation consisting of the installation of 16 soil borings confirmed that petroleum-related compounds remained present at the site at concentrations exceeding their respective NJDEP Soil Remediation Standards (SRS). We completed horizontal and vertical delineation of the contamination and recommended the removal of impacted soils as well as the UST piping identified during the geophysical investigation.

We are currently coordinating with the remediation contractor to mobilize to the Field Office to complete the excavation of the impacted soil and remnant UST piping. The proposed excavation limits to remove petroleum-impacted soil is in close proximity to an overhead canopy at the Field Office.

We worked with the remediation contractor to inspect and design structural supports to ensure the stability of the canopy during excavation activities. Additionally, H2M and the remediation contractor worked with DPMC personnel to obtain required permits to conduct the proposed remedial action.
