Facility Upgrades

Located at the corner of Bedell Street and Main Street in Hempstead, NY, Estella Housing is a mixed-use building with 96 affordable one- and two-bedroom apartments and 7,000 square feet of family-centered retail space. The total building area is nearly 126,000 square feet comprising two levels of parking and four levels of residential units.

H2M had initially completed construction documents for Concern for Independent Living (CIL) in 2017, but funding lapses and the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the start of construction to 2023. As a result, the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal required H2M to reanalyze and adapt the building to meet current HCR standards and design guidelines. This included the replacement of all gas appliances with electrical appliances and the upgrade of all building envelope insulating values and materials.

 In addition to ample parking, grade level contains mechanical rooms, utility rooms, trash/recycling rooms, generators, and vertical circulation elements for the upper and lower floors. The building also includes amenities such as lobby reception, offices, community lounges, a library, and a fitness center.
