Energy Efficiency Improvements

Teaneck, NJ

As part of PSE&G’s Energy Efficiency Program, H2M provided engineering design and construction administration services for numerous energy conservation measures at the Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, NJ. These measures included:

  • The replacement, retrofit, and re-lamping of existing non-LED light fixtures with high efficiency LED solutions.
  • The implementation of automatic lighting controls.
  • The conversion of heating hot water pumps from constant to variable speed through the provision of new premium efficiency motors and pressure modulated variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • The replacement of two existing centrifugal chillers with two new 775-ton magnetic bearing chillers.
  • The replacement of two existing ground mounted cooling towers with two new rooftop mounted cooling towers, along with all required piping revisions.
  • The replacement of existing constant speed condenser water pumps with new variable speed condenser water pumps.
  • The optimization of chiller plant controls to maximize plant efficiency through chiller staging and chilled water reset strategies.
  • The full refurbishment of two dedicated outdoor air units  Approximate Airflow = 150,000 CFM) and an associated exhaust fan. This refurbishment work included the installation of new variable speed fan arrays and full replacement of existing heating / cooling coils, filter racks, and energy recovery wheels.
  • The identification and replacement of failed steam traps.
  • The provision of new insulation for steam traps and othersteam / hot water system components.

H2M prepared engineering plans and specifications for measures described above along with energy savings and simple payback calculations for submission to PSE&G. Additionally, H2M provided oversight during the project’s bid phase and provided construction administration services to ensure successful implementation of each measure.
