New Headquarters

The Port Washington Police District outgrew their single-story facility, despite trying to keep up with Department growth and needs through several renovations, additions, and outbuildings. H2M explored construction of a new facility on the tight current site as part of a feasibility/concept study, but the District ultimately decided to purchase property and build a new Headquarters in the heart of Port Washington.

The new location will use creative grading and landscaping techniques to separate, shield, and soften the station from the surrounding residential neighborhood. Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Principles (CPTED) influenced the layout. The aesthetic is Georgian revival with the front of the building mimicking the monumental, stately, and secure image of other government buildings in the area. The building will utilize energy efficient systems and may feature a microgrid that would include a natural gas generator, photovoltaics, and a battery energy storage system (BESS).
