Promesa Residential Services Recovery Center
Interior Renovation
Bronx, NY
Our team was contracted by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York to convert a vacant community healthcare facility into a co-ed residential treatment center for Acacia Network, one of the leading human services organizations in New York City serving over 150,000 people every year.
The building had fallen into disrepair since its closure in 2012, with issues including an inoperable elevator, signs of water infiltration, rusted skylight framing, disconnected heat, and partial second, third, and fourth floors.
We performed an interior full-gut renovation, roof replacement, and structural improvements. The masonry has been rebuilt, repointed, and waterproofed. The interior stairs and egress stair shafts were reconstructed as well, along with a refurbished five-stop elevator.
The cellar and first floor now comprise program spaces and administrative offices, and the second through fourth floors house residential spaces to accommodate 53 residents at a time. These new layouts are supported by brand new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
