New Fire Station

The Roslyn Highlands Hook & Ladder, Engine & Hose Fire Company’s Sub-Station on Harbor Hill Road was outdated and could not provide optimal emergency response functions. H2M collaborated with the client though several workshops to establish programmatic requirements, including the opportunity for future expansion. Considerations during the design phase included a heavily sloped site that required a significant retaining wall and public feedback expressing a desire for residential aesthetics to accommodate the surrounding neighborhood.

The resulting design was a new 8,250-square-foot station that included a training mezzanine, drive through apparatus bays, and a residential exterior façade that incorporated a pitched asphalt shingle roof, cementitious lap siding, and stone water table, which received positive feedback from the community. Collaboration with the client representatives contributed significantly to the overall success of the project in terms of budget and scheduling.
