The Town of Southampton Police Department needed a new station. Their original station, which was built in 1977, needed more space for offices, police functions, and the opportunity for future growth. The mechanical equipment and roof also needed upgrades.
H2M conducted a buildings conditions survey to determine relative priorities and then presented three options for an addition on the same site. The designs accommodate as many Department functions as possible within the Town’s budget.
The chosen final design is a single-story, 3,557-square-foot addition with an 800-square-foot sally port. The design incorporates “Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design” principles to separate functions accessible to police and the public. For example, the design reduces visibility of the secure police entrance, thereby funneling public traffic into the easily-monitored entrance that only allows access to the main desk. The exterior design will use generic windows to avoid drawing attention to any potentially sensitive areas.
