Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade and Expansion

Washingtonville, NY

The Village of Washingtonville is under Consent Order by New York State to decrease its I/I into their WWTP conveyance system and increase the capacity of the WWTP from 700,000 GPD to 850,000 GPD. H2M was called upon to upgrade the treatment plant.

The existing WWTP is basically two parallel treatment trains: one older trickling filter (original to the plant); and one Oxidation Ditch that was added in 1990. The trickling filter side of the plant is being replaced by a 500,000 GPD sequencing batch reactor (SBR). In addition, the undersized and poorly sited headworks are being replaced by an entirely new headworks building. The facility also includes a new influent pump station, new chlorine contact tank and post-aeration tank, new sludge holding and multi-use tanks, and new polishing filter.
