Sustainable Design and Interior Renovations

In the 100-plus years since its original construction, the Westhampton Free Library has been expanded five times to accommodate its growing book collection and popular children’s programs. In 2016, the Library received a $1.3 million donation earmarked for capital improvements.

We collaborated on a renovation of the Library’s main floor to better align the layout with programmatic goals. The Media Collection was relocated to the former Young Adult space, and several new spaces were created within the existing footprint, including an enclosed Group Study room, business center, and quiet study room. These spaces offer a variety of opportunities for individual or collaborative activities with options for public or more private settings. lounge seating with a new gas fireplace, and reconfiguration of existing staff areas.

The 2,500-square-foot storage attic on the second floor was converted into usable spaces for a teen area, a larger craft room, and offices for the young adult and children departments.
