Project Spotlight: Nancy Bader Drumm Educational Center

Woodbridge Township, Our House, Inc. and H2M architects + engineers recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Nancy Bader Drumm Educational Center, an educational space for adults with disabilities. Our House supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing them with community residences, employment services, and day programs. H2M collaborated with the township and Our House to design this new facility and bring a former catholic elementary school back to life.

“The grand opening and ribbon cutting of the well-appointed Nancy Bader Drumm Educational Center on the grounds of the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School stands as an incredible day for the residents and families enrolled in the Our House Hope Autism Solutions Day Program,” said Woodbridge Township Mayor John E. McCormac. “We would like to commend the work of H2M architects + engineers for their ground-breaking design that transformed the dilapidated building into a state-of-the-art educational center that will positively impact the lives of countless individuals as they strive to embark on an educational journey – the work of H2M stands as a testament to Woodbridge Township’s commitment to serving our Special Needs community,” said McCormac.

The 5,000-square-foot space is now five classrooms, a community room, administrative offices, and an ADA-compliant teaching kitchen. Based on the results of the Township’s environmental testing, H2M developed a design that will prevent the infiltration of chemical contamination and create a safe environment for all occupants.

“Giving back to our community is a core part of H2M’s mission,” said Senior Architect Joseph Flynn, Ed.D., RA. “The opportunities that Our House creates is an important part of that. Their team and this facility will allow individuals the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.”
