Next Generation Public Safety Facilities
Patrick Stone and Dennis Ross will co-present “Next Generation Public Safety Facilites,” exploring forward-thinking design concepts for a world responding to climate change, first responder health and well-being, and advanced IT. The session will examine how emerging technology impacts the design and retrofitting of public safety facilities, new standers for measuring first responder well-being, and AI applications in law enforcement.
In February 2026, Firehouse Magazine, a national publication providing informative news for firefighters, published an article by Patrick Stone in which he outlines the most important lessons he and other H2M public safety specialists have learned from decades of industry experience. Patrick also emphasizes that the rapidly changing world around us is the most influential force shaping the industry moving forward.

Shifting Gears: How Shift Structure Reshapes Fire Station Design
Patrick Stone and Dennis Ross are joining Palm Beach County Fire Rescue’s David Woodside and GearGrid’s Jeff Anderson to co-present “Shifting Gears: How Shift Structure Reshapes Fire Station Design,” exploring how fire departments nationwide are adapting traditional shift models to address firefighter health and wellness, legislative changes, and evolving service demands. The session examines how these operational shifts fundamentally reshape facility design, from bunk rooms and locker rooms to kitchens, training spaces, and support areas, and why planning decisions must consider shift structures from the start.
