Our connection to the community and our commitment to doing the right thing is rooted in our beginnings. Improving the quality of life for everyone within reach has framed our vision and culture for nine decades.
The 90th anniversary affords us the opportunity to honor our past, celebrate the present, and envision our future.
Our roots reach back to 1933 when Henry “Gus” Holzmacher, P.E., started his engineering and surveying practice. Gus set up shop in his Bethpage home, using the kitchen table as his drafting station. One of his first clients was the North Massapequa Fire District, followed by the then newly formed South Farmingdale Water District. In 1953, Gus’s son, Robert “Bob” Holzmacher, P.E., joined the firm, followed by Sam McLendon, P.E., and Norman Murrell, P.E.
The sole proprietorship of H. G. Holzmacher was soon transformed into the partnership of Henry G. Holzmacher and Associates. In 1970, the partnership converted to the professional corporation of Holzmacher, McLendon, & Murrell, P.C. Not long after, the “H2M” acronym was officially adopted.
H2M continued to grow with Bob as President, alongside Sam and Norman as Senior Vice Presidents. In anticipation of the golden trio’s imminent retirement, Harold Dombeck, P.E., took over as President and CEO in 1990. Leadership shifted to John Molloy, P.E., in 1995 and our current President and CEO, Rich Humann, P.E., took the reins in 2013. From our earliest beginnings with one man working at his kitchen table, H2M has grown to more than 500 employees in 10 offices. Several of the clients who started with us 90 years ago are still our partners today, along with many who have joined us along the way. Throughout the course of its history H2M has become one of the most respected professional consulting firms in the Northeast, encompassing eight markets spanning the East Coast.
For as long as H2M has been in business, serving our communities has been a top priority. Through a combination of employee contributions and corporate matching, H2M has a long history of giving back to organizations ranging from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to local chapters of Habitat for Humanity to Canstruction, Inc., the Suffern Soup Kitchen, Unity House of Troy, Feeding Westchester, the Interfaith Food Pantry of Morris County, the Hackensack Meridian Cancer Center, and dozens of others. The charities that we support are near and dear to the hearts of our employees and we are proud to support the organizations that matter most to them.
This brief history is dedicated to all our trusted partners and H2M employees, past and present. We extend our deepest appreciation for your support and confidence through the years, and we look toward to many more.
