County of Saratoga
New Public Safety Facility
County of Saratoga, NY
The County of Saratoga sought to combine all of their essential service departments under one roof: emergency services, an emergency operations center (EOC), public safety answering point (PSAP), the sheriff’s office, and the public health and probation departments. The County already owned land near the jail, but there were concerns that the property might contain archeological artifacts from an alms house from the 1800s, which would have added time and complications to the project. Fortunately for the client, no artifacts were found.
The central portion of the building comprises the EOC, PSAP, and County IT department and is hardened and sheltered from both man-made and natural disasters. Large meeting rooms can accommodate representatives from every emergency services department simultaneously. Outside the building, the design emphasizes Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) through the use of natural landscaping to build up physical security.
