Francis G. Gabreski Airport Helicopter Maintenance Facility & Weapons Shop
Redevelopment and Addition
Westhampton, NY
The New York Air National Guard hired our team to convert a 1950s-era TAC air fighter squadron hangar into an adequately-sized, properly-configured helicopter maintenance facility, as well as design an addition to the structure to house a weapons shop.
After extensive field measuring, conformance of existing conditions, and preparation of plans, specifications, and final cost opinions, we began work reconfiguring the original building with a new weapons shop on the 48,000-square-foot facility.
The scope of the work included solicitation services, bid reviews, lead and asbestos abatement monitoring, and a wide variety of construction observation services. The construction portion of the project provided a special challenge for the firm, as the existing building was located on the edge of the runway. H2M coordinated construction operations and equipment with both Air National Guard and civilian personnel to ensure there were no interruptions to airport operations.
