Headquarters Reconstruction

On Christmas Day, fire ripped through the North Massapequa Fire Department headquarters, destroying their apparatus bay and several apparatus. Adjacent spaces also suffered residual smoke and water damage. H2M redesigned their headquarters and new apparatus bay to meet current building codes and safety standards while adding a training mezzanine and partial second floor. The Department wanted a modern architectural style to appeal to new membership and entice retention and recruitment. The project recladded the existing building to blend into the new materials of the addition, while creating sleek modern forms with monochromatic tones.

H2M worked with the North Massapequa Fire District to overcome several challenges, including working within the existing “postage stamp” corner site which abuts an active elementary school playground, bidding and construction through the COVID-19 pandemic, and overcoming the related supply chain shortages and delays.
