Massapequa Fire District Park House Substation

New Station

Originally built in 1953, the existing Massapequa Park House Station did not comply with modern building codes or firefighting best practices. The Board of Commissioners requested that the design for a new station adapt the original hose drying tower as a prominent feature. H2M met their request and also provided temporary power and other critical infrastructure to the existing 110-foot radio monopole during demolition and construction.

The new 21,600-square-foot station comprises seven bays, integrated hands-on training, decontamination spaces, company offices, fitness facilities, a training classroom, rehab support, and large multipurpose room.

Programmatic requirements nearly doubled the existing square footage, so H2M responded to community aesthetic requests by designing the station to match the local streetscape. The façade blends a traditional masonry fire station with softer residential elements. A split-level second floor doubles as an outdoor wellness patio and hides the commercial-sized mechanical equipment.
