New Spot on the Board

Melville, NY: H2M architects + engineers is pleased to announce that Staff Architect Megan O’Grady in our White Plains Office was named the Associate Director on the Emerging Professionals Board on September 20, 2016 at the AIA Westchester + Hudson Valley Chapter annual meeting. Megan will be serving a three year term for her spot on the board.

Megan said “By being part of the Emerging Professionals Board Megan’s goal is to help continue the 80 years of success that the chapter has established.”

In March 2015, Megan started working for H2M at its Melville headquarters. While in Melville, she worked with H2M’s studio director Mike Bonacasa, who conducts private sector work. Working with Mike, Megan had the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects such as renovations for a comedy club, feasibility studies and space planning for assisted living facilities, and fire damaged houses. In December of 2015, she joined the team at H2M White Plains Office. The work in White Plains is focused primarily on public schools and emergency response facilities. She has participated as a staff architect on a variety of project teams, including brick restoration, roof replacement and pre-bond work for Mt. Pleasant School District and interior work for the White Plains School District.

H2M gives all employees encouragement and the opportunity to get more involved in the H2M internal committees. Megan’s involvement in the H2M committees has really helped her to branch out and feel more comfortable joining organizations outside of H2M. At the start of this year, Megan joined the AIA Westchester + Hudson Valley Chapter. Slowly as the year progressed Megan started to attend more and more of the events held by the chapter. This past summer she began to get very involved with the AIA Emerging Professionals Board and offered to help out in any way that she could. This week Megan was elected as one of the Associate Directors of the Emerging Professionals Board.

The AIA Westchester + Hudson Valley Chapter orchestrates several events every month, some of the upcoming events includes meetings, young professional happy hours (once a month for the young professional and architects in the area to network) events, seminars, the NYS AIA Design Conference, chapter meetings, a 80th Anniversary Boat party, and Design Awards. The chapter also offers a lending library for people in the processes of taking their Architect Registration Examination (ARE exams), and every year a scholarship is giving out to a member who is taking exams or who has just completed the exams. A quarterly newsletter is distributed to all the members about different things that have been going on in the chapter and with the members.

“The AIA Westchester + Hudson Valley Young Professionals engages local professionals at the early stages of their careers. We connect through networking, leadership, and professional development programs.”

H2M has many committees and organizations such as the Young Professionals, Sustainability, Architecture, Safety, Achieving a College Education Program (ACE), Wellness, Quality Assurance/ Quality Control (QA/QC), Health Insurance, Employee Engagement, Vision and Values, Professional Development, Design, Professional Standards, Technology, Interview, Architecture Registration Examination (ARE) Roundtable and Young Architects committees.
