George Desmarais Receives NYWEA Awards

George Desmarais received the New York Water Environmental Association (NYWEA) Hall of Fame, Life Membership, and Board of Directors’ Service Award this year.

George Desmarais worked with H2M in Melville, NY, starting in 1980 and was a Senior Vice President for wastewater projects on Long Island and the Lower Hudson Valley Region prior to his retirement in December 2020.

George is a registered Professional Engineer in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania.  He has been a NYWEA member since 1980 and is based in the Long Island Chapter.  Since 1984, Mr. Desmarais has held numerous positions in the Chapter including Membership Committee member, Board of Directors, Secretary Treasurer, Chapter Chair, and Board Representative.  He was also on the State Membership Committee.

George has been awarded the Long Island Chapter’s Achievement Award (1995), Distinguished Service Award (2007), and Lifetime Achievement Award (2020).  He was also recognized with NYWEA’s Environmental Engineer Award (2016) and the NYWEA Service Award (2019), and received a silver shovel.

George lives in St. James, NY with his wife Bonnie.  They have two children (Drew and Kristen) and three grandsons.
