H2M architects + engineers WINS MULTIPLE AWARDS FOR THEIR WORK IN SOUTH HUNTINGTON

Melville, NY —

H2M architects + engineers—Long Island’s leading architectural, engineering and environmental-service firm—recently received “Project of the Year” from the New York American Water Works Association (NYAWWA) and a Gold Award from the New York American Council of Engineering Companies (NYACEC) for efforts to rehabilitate the public water supply at the South Huntington Water District’s Well No. 9.  This series of accolades was the latest of many awards H2M and the South Huntington Water District achieved for their exceptional work to enhance water services.

Most residents’ main concern was if the finished product would fit into the aesthetics of their residential neighborhood.  To combat this, H2M designed a single-family home, complete with perimeter fencing, a driveway, and landscaping to house the well.

“We are proud of the way the planning, design, and construction was implemented on this important project,” stated Dennis Kelleher, Executive Vice President of H2M.  “Noting that the project was located within a residential area, the District and our firm committed to the community that there would be minimal adverse impact to the neighborhood.”

In an effort to avoid potential water quality and supply issues related to aging infrastructure, the South Huntington Water District engaged H2M’s team of engineers to develop a renovated water treatment system at Well No. 9. The project was successful in completing a total renovation of the well’s infrastructure and was vital to the District’s ability to best service the 82,000 residents in its community during periods of highest demand. Both H2M and the South Huntington Water District organized a series of public meetings to engage the community’s feedback during the process of this renovation project.

“This project allows the District to continue to provide a reliable source of water for potable and fire fighting every day of the year.  H2M has been providing excellent engineering service to the Water District for the past 60 years and it continued throughout the project,” stated South Huntington Water District Commissioner, Paul Tonna.

The NYAWWA “Project of the Year” award was presented to H2M during the NYAWWA Spring Conference.   The American Water Works Association (AWWA) consists of a network of water supply builders and professionals that provide solutions to improve public health, protect the environment, strengthen the economy and enhance our quality of life.

The NYACEC Gold Award was presented to H2M recently at the Engineering Excellence Awards Gala, where the company also received accolades for 11 different projects submitted for consideration. The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) is a coalition of 270 firms representing every disciple in engineering related to the built environment—civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, environmental, geotechnical—and affiliated companies.

“H2M hopes to continue to work closely with the South Huntington Water District to repair and replace aging water infrastructure,” stated Kelleher.

Celebrating 85 years, H2M is a full-service consulting and design firm offering the expertise of more than 390 architects, engineers (water supply, civil/site, structural, M/E/P, wastewater and environmental), planners, designers, inspectors, surveyors and scientists.
